Benefit from Becoming an Insurance Advisor

Have you ever thought about becoming an advisor in the insurance market? Not everyone can have a promising career in the field of insurance, let alone in advising others on which insurance would benefit them the most. It takes determination, honesty, and wits to succeed in the business.

Take a look at the following responsibilities you will have as an insurance advisor and find out if you will be able to fulfill them:

  • As an insurance advisor, your job revolves around providing your clients with the best insurance solutions.
  • You have the responsibility of pointing your clients towards policies and plans that are most suited for their needs.
  • It is your job to empower your clients and their families to attain financial security by helping them take proper investment routes.
  • You have the responsibility of educating your clients about every little detail of all the investment options available for them.

If you can indeed fulfill the above responsibilities, the following are some of the benefits you can get as an insurance advisor:

  • A career as an insurance advisor gives you a lucrative earning potential, while at the same time building you up for career growth. Every policy you sell helps you earn an impressive commission, meaning that the more you sell the more you’ll earn. You will be able to develop your skills and knowledge to establish a successful and stable career.
  • By starting out as an insurance solution provider or an insurance advisor, you can eventually develop enough experience and skills to become a specialist in the field. This makes for a wider scope in career growth to ensure your future success and financial stability.
  • To become successful as an insurance adviser, you do not need a start-up capital. All you need to invest is your time and effort and your scope for growth and financial success will continue to grow the longer you stay in the business.

The job of an insurance advisor is unlike anything. It requires plenty of will and hard-work. In addition, the job is for someone who is always ready to help their clients grow.

How to Become a Good Insurance Advisor

Becoming a successful insurance advisor is not only about being a good salesperson. Although selling is an important aspect, it is not the key to achieving success. To become truly successful, you only need to master a few basic techniques that are crucial for winning over your clients. Let’s take a look at those techniques so you can implement them in your career as an insurance advisor:

  1. Give your 100% – When dealing with clients or prospects, it is important that you are physically and mentally present. Avoid distracting yourself with other tasks or thoughts, as this can hamper the way you respond or deal with their queries. Also, this helps you show that you are paying attention and your clients are worth your time and energy.

  2. Listen to understand – A lot of people (even in day-to-day interactions with others) make the mistake of listening just to give a suitable respond. This can be particularly harmful for an insurance advisor’s career.

Instead of simply responding to your client/prospect’s queries, try to listen and understand to their queries. This can help you raise suitable questions and learn more about them.

  3. Acknowledge their emotional needs – In the life of an insurance advisor, forming a close bond and relationship with clients is one of utmost importance. And for this, you need to learn to identify and acknowledge what your client/prospect is feeling about certain events or situations.

For instance, try to listen carefully and see if you can recognize signs of emotions such as anxiety, fear, anger, frustration, or excitement when your client is talking about a specific situation.

  4. Relate to them – One helpful way of winning over prospective clients is to give them a clear yet concise perspective about certain situations. You could try sharing your experiences or knowledge about those issues.

This allows them to look at their issues through different lenses. This, in turn, gives you the opportunity to help them come up with effective and innovative solutions.

It’s always crucial for an insurance advisor to emulate confidence when interacting with their clients and prospects. The more you trust yourself, the more your clients will learn to trust you too.

Visiting the Cottage or the US?

Are you planning to visit the cottage this summer or traveling outside of Ontario? One question you may have asked is, do you need travel insurance if you are traveling within in Canada?

For the most part – you are in good hands. We are lucky to live in a country that has great health coverage. Many of the same expenses are covered province to province, and you are most likely to reimburse of your medical costs albeit a few exceptions (i.e. ambulance).

However, traveling outside Canada is another story, even if you are just visiting the States. Say you get injured, break a leg and have to stay the night in the States hospital that can easily be $5000. OHIP will only reimburse you for about $200.

Canadians take 29 million trips annually outside the country, and when they travel to the States, many don’t always think of travel insurance, but it is important. Travel insurance is inexpensive, but it offers many benefits.  But mostly, having traveling insurance offers you peace of mind that lets you really enjoy your vacation.

Is your child interested in becoming a Doctor or Lawyer?

Parents always want their children to succeed, and for this reason, try to encourage their children to follow specific career paths that they believe will offer prestige and a good income. Doctor, lawyers and engineers have long been prescribed for this reason (you may even be a parent that is encouraging your child to become a doctor, lawyer or engineer!).

But, have you stopped to think about how much it would cost to be a doctor or engineer or lawyer? While it may be great to have your child study in either one of these fields, are these fields that are affordable to study?

Let’s have a quick run at the numbers. (For the sake of simplicity, we’ve looked at University of Toronto’s numbers.)

Doctor
$158, 116

Lawyer
$ 91, 371
Did you know the graduating 2014 class has the highest debt of any graduating class from University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law?

Engineer (Materials and Science Engineering)
$ 49, 452

These are just basic numbers for domestic students, if you specialize, do another program, live on residence or anything else, these numbers can just be the tip of the iceberg! Education isn’t cheap!

How much did tuition cost you when you were in school?

Retired and Traveling?

Travel medical insurance is absolutely necessary when you are traveling regardless of how old you are, but as a senior, it is even more necessary. The truth is, with age comes health problems. When you’re travelling, you want to have a good time, but should also be cognizant that you may need health care treatment during your stay – especially if your stay is longer, or if you are going to a country that is very humid and has a low air quality.

In Canada, we sometimes don’t realize how lucky we are to have our healthcare paid for, it is not until we visit other places, especially without medical insurance do we realize how important have protection is. Do You Need Travel Insurance Within Canada?

When people think of getting travel insurance, they often think of traveling outside of Canada, but did you know not all provinces would cover some of your emergencies?

You should find out through the provincial healthcare for the province what is covered and what isn’t. For example, air ambulance wouldn’t be covered in Vancouver. Some provinces you have to pay ahead of time and get reimbursement after – so it is best to check what and what isn’t covered if you have health needs you are concerned of.

Men: 3 Things to Do Before Saying “I Do”

“When you truly love someone, their happiness is more important than your own.” Men and women show love in different ways – men have a tendency to show their love by planning long-term for the future and making sure their wife is happy, not only for today, but 10, 20, 30 years down the road.  Men, before you say, “I do” to the women you love, show her your love by planning ahead.
  1. Get Life Insurance. It is probable your spouse will out live you, make sure she is protected. In Canada, women have a longer life expectancy than men. According to Statistics Canada (2009), the life expectancy in Canada for men is ~ 78 and is ~ 83 for women. Plus, when your young, your premiums are much lower than if you signed up for life insurance later in life.
  2. Get an RRSP.  It is never too early to start planning for your future. You hear people say that they can’t wait to retire – planning for this early and working towards it as a couple will help ensure you retire comfortably.
  3. Get Health Insurance. Did you know the biggest reason couples argue is because of money? Planning ahead and having insurance can help deal with unexpected expensive bills like dental treatment and critical illnesses.

Topics of life insurance can be sensitive, because we never want to think of such a situation, but the reality is, it is always better to have that safety net in place – just in case. Marriage is big step in life. It takes a lot of love, communication, and hard work. To make a marriage work, there is no magic ingredient, but it is always important to care and protect one another at all times. To speak with one of our insurance agents about insurance options for you, call us at (416) 909-0400.
